In all your wanderings over the Internet, have you ever come across any pictures that represent the landscape of Ithilien in the way you like best? I have come across some - none of them induce in me the "OMG, that's exactly it!" response that I'm looking for, but they are all beautiful, and do the job fine. Please post other examples here that we can have a look at, and share your comments and views. (This is my firm favourite!) (FROM WEBSHOTS-) (Currently used on the front page of Ithilien website.) (I can't remember where this is from-) That's all, folks.

Ooh- not sure about the first one; that reminds me more of The Amber Spyglass- you know, the mountain where Will finds his father and where Lee is killed?
Yes, tell me what you all think of the two penultimate waterfall pics- I'm thinking of basing a poster of Ithilien around it.
LOVE the tree-y one- perfect Ithilien!

That first waterfall one looks like it's got treacle running through it, not water...sorry, just felt I should say that. I do actually like the second one, it's closest to what I think it would look like. The first three waterfall ones are lovely too, but there's something about them that doesn't quite go "I'm Ithilien!" to me...

The first 3 waterfall ones remind me ever so slightly of DofE.
Actually, the second; although it's my favourite so far; it seems too pretty and blue somehow; Ithilien is supposed to be quite barren and green. So I think the fouthe one is probably the closest 'real representation. The last waterfall one looks very secretive and accessible only be hidden paths; very Window on the West-y

It does seem rather blue actually, perhaps its artist had a blue fixation?

As I've said, the second one is my favourite aesthetically. But actually the sixth one is much more realistic, with the mountains (or morrdorr) in the background, and slightly barren, as Esteldil says. It's also intensely beautiful, in it's own way, mixing the harshness of the Ephel Duath with the greenery in front. However perhaps it's a little too barren... I got the impression that Ithilien was green all the way up to the slopes of the mountains... but that could be wrong, in which case this picture would be perfect. The only thing I don't really like about the second picture is that Frodo and Sam and Gollum are creeping about in it, and we don't want Ithilien necessarily to be part of a scene from the film... does that make sense? IMO it's much better as a landscape that stands on its own. The first one is quite relevent because Ithil = moon, and look there's a big moon! And mountains! But I agree it's not a very good picture.

I got the impression that it's quite green either. but then when reading this bit, I kinda think it's more brown-y: like Yorkshire moors...
So, actually, despite the second one being really blue; it's probably the closest. Although I still think it looks too fairy-like, so the sixth one is probably the closest we'll get in real life. Pity there's no visible waterfall though.

What about this one, which is also Ithilien supposedly - www.phys.uni.torun.pl/~jacek/ tolkien/2wieze.htm[/img] It even has added MOOMAKIL, it is also the front cover for one of the HoMEs, I don't think it is very good to be honest though, too misty and myterious I think.

From the description I guess you mean this by John Howe? I agree, it's nice, but it's too misty, and there's a bloody great elephant in the middle. My vote goes to the second one. It's just too pretty
