Since we were all speaking of it, a new thread seemed appropriate: Let's talk about what actors, how PJ will do it, what he'll have in, leave out etc. Happy Posting!

Wahey! A new thread. Like in PotC when they all rush to lower the anchor. Made me think that maybe they're not terribly experienced sailors and still find lowering the anchor exciting.
Hm...I don't think Ian Holm will be asked to play Bilbo again, I mean it's a lot of work for someone his age, although he was very good in LotR. I also think it will be a lot of work with special effects and whatnot, with 13 dwarves and a Hobbit. What about Gandalf, I wonder?

Ian Mackellen said he was interested in playing Gandalf again. Although he also said he was interested in playing King Kong, which makes me think he was not altogether serious. Spike to play Thranduil! Spike to play Thranduil! I hope Orlando Bloom decides to do a cameo. That would make my day. Bard - Eric Bana?

Why not Ian Holm? I really think as many of the original characters as possible should be kept in to give the story continuity especially as the tone will be the same as LOTR given that ist's directed by PJ. And, yes, I reckon for box-office power, Orli should do cameo.
FOr Bard, i reckon him to be grim, maybe 40s, short hair, def. dark: Bana sounds quite good. Erm-Colin Firth?

Hm...but it'd be great to have him back as Gandalf. Mmmmmmm Gandalf. Sorry.
I don't know about Colin Firth, he seems a bit stiff to me. That sounds wrong.
Which Spike do you mean? The one out of Buffy or the one out of Notting Hill? Or neither?

No, Colin Firth is starting to look quite old. And chubby too.
I mean the Spike from Buffy. James Maarrsters.

I've actually done a little picture of Spike as Thranduil. It's very cool ;D I'll bring it in tomorrow to show everyone.

The perfect Bard (Eric Bana in middle) Perhaps not so smiley. More frowny. But less eyebrows- we don't want an Elrond lookalike

I totally agree I think Eric Bana would be a perfect Bard, he looks the part and how I imagined. The moment you said him I though YES I can see that.
I don't think Ian Holm will be good as Bilbo as he is a bit old now, they had to pin his face back for the young Bilbo in LotR anyway. I think it should be him as it was be good for carrying on from LotR but I think that he is just too old. I can't think who would be good to replace him.
I really think tha James Marsters is FIIIIIIIIIIIIT he is sooo funny in Buffy, who here loves Buffy? IM NOT ALONE...even though I've gone off it now, I was MAAAD on it before, especially on Spike - I'm lying in a bath tub drinking pig's blood from a novelty mug, doesn't rate high in the Zaggert's guide does it. YAY SARCASM IS MY BEST FRIEND. I don' know about him being Thranduil though, he seems too cool, know what I mean and although an elf i think he should look a bit older, like Celeborn...but not LIKE Celeborn as he is very ugly. How about...hmm I really can't think. CARY ELWES OOH GOD YES PLEASEEEEEEEEEE! He would be soooooo coool as Thranduil.
I also think that Orlando will reappear as Leggie for old time's sake and he would have been there at the time in the story anyway, just because he wasn't introduced in the book. That would be cool.
As I have also said before I think it would be cool if there was a young boy at Rivendell who Elrond introduces to Bilbo as Estel...little knowing who he was and who he was to become....now that would make me scream and jump up and down.
How about a wee Frodo as well, a wee baby..I know he shouldn't be alive then but they have already skewed the time a lot as it is.

I looked up Cary Elwes and I agree, he is very nice! Not much older than James Marsters though.
Someone brought this up on another forum. Jude Law would make an excellent Elf. Too kind-looking for Thranduil (who we hear is rather arrogant), but maybe Glorfindel, or Erestor?
Actually, wouldn't Estel be around 20 at that time? Lol, he could be played by Harry Mortenson.
I can't think of who else would be good to play Bilbo though.
I used to love watching Buffy, but was terribly disappointed with the fifth season, so I stopped watching before the sixth.

Cary Elwes is sooooo nice, he is Robin Hood in Robin Hood men in tights and he was VERY hot in that. He looks older than James Masters I think, I can just imagine him being Legolas' father though as he looks like Legolas especially in RH. He is also not an actor which has been in loads of high budget films before LotR like all the LotR cast had, I mean I hadn't heard of any of the cast, I had seen them in things of course but not like picked them out, I knew Sean Bean actually cos I loved Sharpe and used to fancy him when I was like 8.
NOT JUDE LAW, he is too much of a Hollywood bigshot for my taste and I have heard that he is very up his own arse. He is fit though I won't dismiss that sorry this has to be said tho - eXistence is PAWSED *shlump*
I worked out that he would be about 8, but then I am really bad at maths, Herni would be good, a bit too odl however, lol a bit too young for a 20 year old however.
OMG I did exactly the same I loved the first 4 seasons hated the fifth and stopped watching it. I've only seen about 2 of the 5 and 6th series.
Can't think of a Bilbo either darn...kinda an important charchter.
There is a really weird song on the radio I must mention its all about chocolate and it reli freaky..hmm.

Yeah, Buffy got pants after that.
You know, I actually can't remember who Bard is. Darn, Mum's nicked my Hobbit. Will have to ask her.
I'm not too sure about Jude Law. I think his face is a bit wide, for some reason I think elves have pointy faces lol. Think it must be Bllom's cheekbones.

Hope I am not ruining the story for anyone but he is the guy who kills Smaug in the end. IF YOU'VE NOT READ IT ALREADY ITS YOUR FAULT!
I really don't think that Jude Law would make a good elf at all...mind you what about Craig Parker.
Def Cary Elwes as I have said though, what about Justin from the Darkness lol, he would be a good elf....mmm a very good elf. Who could he be, one of Legolas' brothers.

I can actually see wee Justin fitting in lol. Dan could be Haldir's double heheh. Not that we'd need Haldir...
Oh, right. Def need to re-read the Hobbit.
