Gollum's Song certainly grew on me, as did Into The West, both of which I didn't really like the first time, whereas May It Be was always nice to listen to, but never made me cry. My firm favourite has to be Into The West. Like people have mentioned before, it's what it represents as well as what it sounds like. Lucia - here's a new name - "Elenna", pronounced with the accent on the second "e". It means "star-ward" and is one of the places in Numenor. Badminton was terrible All the 15-year-old boys are now taller and stronger than us, and beat us at shuttle runs, and smash at us. But we're still the prettiest RastNim - debating is at the Grammar School, where each week there's a topic, e.g. "This house would never go to war", and two people speak for the motion, and two people speak against the motion. Then there's a floor debate, where everyone who isn't a speaker can voice their opinions. Our challenge was to bring in LotR in the floor debate.

...which we did with perfect grace and subtlety. Ok, maybe not the subtlety. The Ride of the Roharrim is not that sad for me but the charge of Faramir's company on Osgiliath with Pippin singing and Denethor eating. That makes me sooooo sad, I cried both times that I saw it. The fact that you don't really see them die just see them charge and you can't hear them, only see their brave desperation always makes me choke up. In fact, that whole scene (with Faramir leaving and the poeple tossing flowers) is quite sad, although the tossing of flowers is a tad corny. No, Lei, don't think we're the prettiest anymore. Frank is

No, Lei, don't think we're the prettiest anymore. Frank is Yes, perhaps. He has really bloomed since hitting 70.

That bit with Faramir didn't even make me feel slightly sad and I was surprised when people said afterwards that they thought it was the saddest scene. The scenes that made me sad and/or cry were - Gandalf telling Pippin about Valinor in Minas Tirith Aragorn's "For Frodo" bit Sam's "but I can carry you" bit Sam's "It would have been her" bit Aragorn telling the Hobbits "You bow to no-one" Frodo leaving at the end and saying goodbye to them all My fav line is the - "Rosie Cotton dancing, she had ribbons in her hair" - the first time I saw that I literally just burst into tears....quite embarrassing actually. What about everyone else? The debating thing sounds interesting, what sort of subjects is it on? Did you manage to drop LotR into it anywhere? I do admit that Faramir crying is quite sad though Charlie Don't you just wanna hug him aww!

I agree. In general, I don't find the sight of men crying particularly moving. Oh, except that episode of Angel when Buffy came to see him and they fell in love all over again and then he had to leave her. Then I cried like a baby.
Scenes that made me cry -
TTT - the woman putting her children on the horse, and the girl saying her brother shouldn't be riding because it's too big for him. For some reason that line did it for me.
RotK - Merry and Pippin being seperated by Gandalf.
RotK - The sight of the two hobbits trying to get out of the volcano at the end.
They're the only three times I've cried during the movies.
Last friday's subject was the one about going to war. They were talking about the impracticality of fighting with spears, and Lucia got LotR in by highlighting that point, saying stuff about cavalry and swords, "like in Lord of the Rings". Big groans from everyone. Then mine was about the default way of solving problems shouldn't be war; the greatest force doesn't necessarily make the greatest effect; we all know the most efficient way to destroy the ring".
OK, so they weren't brilliant, but we have plenty of oppurtunities in the future ;D

If you ask for a list of the points that I cry in in the three films you would be there all night, I am a very emotional person lol. YAY LOTR WON THE MOST BAFTAS, I have just sat there and watched the entire thing. Am v pissed thought that it didn't win best music or director. Oh well, it won 5 and the Orange film award, YAY GO LOTR. Right where was I...
Yes I cry lots, the most in RotK then FotR then TTT, I still cry when Gandalf falls in FotR even though I know perfectly well that he comes back.
Yay well done for getting LotR into the debate, I try and do that when I do English talks, subtly with lines and I have done talks on the books. People always groan when we mention LotR as well, why do they now want to hear for the millionth time how brilliant LotR is!
