Well, I jsut thought it'd be interesting to find out when the obsession started and how for everyone. OK, mine started when Steph dragged me and Lei to see FOTR. (we pretty quickly became big fans, alhtough Lei way more than me!) Can you believe that before that, I refused to read FOTR which Steph got me for Xmas.... Anyway, then I read the books etc. bugged friends for posters etc. admired U5 elves from afar etc. (funny, I don't think me and Lei dared to say anything to you guys cos we were scared you'd think we were wierd....) THen, this Jan. I became seriously obsessed (Lei...don't give details...far too embarassing!) and, coupled with lei's obsession, Ithilien was born! (wow, what a nice story- let's make it a song! )

I discovered they were going to make a film and got really interested and went out and bought the books. Then I watched fotr and didn't understand it but was determined to so went back and gradually became obsessed. I then sort of spread the lotrness and Laura and Charlie became obsessive too, that was reli cool. Then Beccy came to the school and she said she liked Lotr and there was much merriment. As for RNY, I don't really know where she fits in lol, I think she came in half way between....hmm. Anyway, after that we began to notice other people liked lotr, not naming any two in particular... You should have said something to us btw it would have been the highlight of our lives, if ever you siad something to us we would get really hyper, like the time in the computer room that Lei prob doesn't remember about a certain library of Moria.... that was sooooo cool....anyway. It's a shame you didn't realise we were so weird earlier, ahh happy lotr, it draws us all together (bnlt) (for explanation of bnlt see Return to Middle-Earth) I think the peak of the lotr obsessiveness came just after Christmas last year, just after ttt cameout...we haven't really come down from that high since. Did you guys ever go on one spoof btw before it was closed down??

I first got sort of interested when Tina got into it and started telling me a bit about the story. I never saw FotR in the cinema, I waited until it came out on video and then watched it. I got a little too into the story, which should have been rather a big clue, really.
Tina and I thought that TTT was going to be really sad and so we went together (bnlt) the day after it came out (rather a momentous (?) day wasn't it, pie?) and it turned out to be not very sad at all. We saw TTT 3 times in the cinema, once we ended up holding hands across our poor friend's lap throughout the entire film. Once we went with my sister, and many...interesting things happened with the food.
RotK...ah, RotK. It came out at rather a bad time for me, and the first time I saw it was horrible in a way. The second time I cried lots, and the third exactly the same. The fourth time was in Sheffield. Oh, the joy. Rny and Laura were in hysterics when me and Tinor were crying...
I sort of went beyond the question there didn't I?

Yes, I know I'm not a true LotR fan. I want to see RotK again before it goes out of the cinemas...Oh well, it may just have to wait.

You are a true lotr fan, more than RNY is, she only comes cos she has nowhere else to go at lunch time, mind you i think she enjoys it. [EDIT: Deleted some hilarious stuff, but blatantly off-topic! (and slightly rude) - Comma]

I'd just thought of this last night and was going to ask you this morning!!! Were you the people who were looking through some really gross pairings (e.g. Legolas/Lurtz) and I told you you'd better not read those? I had no idea it was you guys (we probably didn't know about you guys then.) It was soo long ago. OMG. Wow. Breathe. Did I also accost you in the computer room and tell you also that the forums you were using (www.lordoftherings.co.uk as I recall) were terrible and you should all be using SF-Fandom? Maybe came across it once. Was it the one with funny cartoons - Legolas as the dominatrix Balrog, etc? My introduction to LotR is the same as Lucia's (for obvious reasons), except, as she says, I got much more into it than she did, at first. However, I've only seen RotK once, but will be going again on Tuesday (I hope).

hyperventilating here. ever so slightly.
Lei- I think the people you tried to introduce to Sf-fandom were 1st years. In fact, i'm sure they were.
Oooh- they could be the first years at TS...exciting! how our little webs link!
goes to look up bnlt (to prevent me thinking it's a random juxtaposition of BLT sandwhich. am hungry.)

bnlt means but not like that, as in "Return to Middle-earth" when Billy Boyd said "And me and Dom, we're now TOGETHER, but not like that."

It's on the TTT DVD, the one with the extras and stuff. I think it's called "WB special-Return to Middle-earth."

Having bought the FotR and TTT EEs, here's me thinking I should watch them some time. Lufa, fancy sitting down with me for 10 hours of extra features?
