I thought this might be fun. For anyone who doesn't know the rules, here it goes:
Someone posts the names of two unrelated characters, and everyone else try to link the names together, through other characters that they have met. Try to see how many different ways of linking we can get, before the one with the shortest gets to start the next round. Confused? See example below:
Q: "Link Manwe to Frodo"
A1: Manwe met Gandalf, Gandalf met Frodo.
A2: Manwe met Fingolfin, Fingolfin met Morgoth, Morgoth met Sauron, Sauron met the Witch King, the Witch King met Éowyn, Éowyn met Faramir, Faramir met Boromir, Boromir met Frodo.
Let's start with
Q: "Link Bard with Elrond"

Bard....Mmmm. Niiiiice. Erm, ok, getting distracted here. Bard met Durin Durin met Thranduil Thranduil spawned Legolas (so presumably they met) Legolas met Elrond yay!

Oooh, nearly forgot. I have one if anyone would care to answer it:
Link Feanor to Eomer.
(Lei, I've forgotten the original one I thought up, but if you remember, let me know so I can edit my own post...exciting!)

OK, how about: Feanor met Finrod. (Finrod's his half-brother's son) Finrod met Barahir (I think that's his name). (Barahir saved his life) Barahir is Aragorn's ancestor so presumably the met through a long succession of descendents. Aragorn met Eomer. That would probably be the longest chain ever, if anyone can be bothered to look up all the names linking Barahir to Aragorn. And, I can't remember that last chain you got...

Lol I can't do these with real people ummm....
Feanor meets Cirdan the Shipwright when he first comes to Middle-Earth
Cirdan gives Gandalf the elvish ring of fire (sounds like a painful practical joke...or something else) so presumably they met.
How about Nienor and uhhhh Sam

How about Nienor and uhhhh Sam Nienor was the daughter of Húrin. But oh, whoops, they never met, did they? Or if they didn't, then Nienor met/married Turin, who was the son of Húrin. Húrin fought for Turgon in the (fourth?) battle for Middle-Earth. Turgon was the son of, let me think, Fingolfin. Fingolfin might have met Thingol on the march West to Valinor, but if he didn't, then at least his father Finwe was there. Thranduil lived in the land of Doriath, so he would have met Thingol. Thranduil was Legolas' father. Legolas met Sam. That was fun!

Actually, I now have a shorter one.
Nienor met Mablung (who tried to help her in the wild).
Mablung was a chief march-warden in Doriath, so he would have met Celeborn, who dwelt there.
Celeborn met Sam.

Wow! round of applause there, I think! That was good! You know, this game only serves to reinforce that little urban legend (but not really any more since it's been proven), of the 7 Degrees of Separation!
Anyone else think of a good one?

Round of applause for people who ahve done really good links OK am slightly worried about what my book says about him I quote - "Twenty-fifth and last King of Númenor. He assailed Mordor and brought Sauron back to Númenor as a hostage, but Sauron seduced him, and persuaded him to sail on Valinor itself." What kind of lotr were they reading I wonder. I could do a really annoyingly quick one - Ar- Pharazon was seduced(!) by Sauron, therefore I guess met him. Aragorn saw Sauron through the Palantir. Prince Imrahil helped Aragorn on the battle of Pelennor fields and I'm sure they spoke to one another once or twice. I was reading an interesting book on the Seven Daugthers of Eve which is saying how we are all related, weird innit. Bill Bryson says in his book that if you look around you in the street you are related distantly to every 6th person, so it's likely if you think about it that some of use are related. Also that you are related to at least on of you friends....weird. OOh another one to link... Nahar to Gimli lol, a weird and quite hard on I should imagine.

Hehe. Seduced. It probably just meant "corrupted", since Sauron persuaded him that if he set foot in the Blessed Realm, he would have a share in the immortality of the Elves (which wasn't the case). This was at a time when Ar-Pharazon was aging and extremely reluctant to die.
As a result, he died.
Oh, I like this one:
Nahar met Orome.
Orome guided the Elves West so he met Elwe/Thingol.
Thingol lived in Doriath with Thranduil.
Thranduil met (and imprisoned) Gloin.
Gloin met Gimli.
