This strikes me as an excellent idea, so here's hoping you all agree! This thread is for anyone who has a random TOlkein question that they want answered but which doesn't quite merit a full-blown discussion. You see, i have one! Q: what are the wizards called? They have a proper name, don't they, only I can't remember it Thanks!

[EDIT: Just had a thought. We could make this a quiz thread!
OK, next question:
Who was Shelob descended from?]

Is that what you meant about the names, I assumed you meant the names they had in Valinor. In which case they are -
Gandalf - Olorin Saruman - Curufin Radagast - (ummm, I'll have to look it up I alsways forget it) Ah..Aiwendil Then the two blue wizards Pallando and Alatar
collectivly known as the Istari
As for who Shelob was descended from it was Ungoliant, the great spider whose name, incidently, if you wish to know means "gloom weaver" so there you are.
I am Tina by the way for anyone who wants to know HIYA *waves*

Ah! so that's who you are (I'm now finally starting to put faces to names and forum-aliases....great feeling!)
I would just like to say that I have FINALLY worked out the whole Gondor/Arnor thing yesterday after much scribbling and looking up stuff.
I only have one question, which I probably should lok up but feeling too comfy to get up for: Is it Minas Morgul or Cirith Ungol which Frodo, Sam and Gollum passed in front of before going up the steps?

I have another question, only about the soundtrack of the second film:
Which tracks are the words printed on the cover sheet in? Gollum's Song is obviously in Gollum's Song. But what about the Ents? I'm guessing that's in Isengard Unleashed or Treebeard. And I really can't decipher The Missing in any track. I can't even figure out who it's about and its relevance, so if anyone wise (or not deaf) can help out, i would be happy!

I think it's Minas Morgul but check with Tina, she'll know. I think the Ents thing is in Isengard Unleashed. Not sure though, I got confused about that one.

I agree, I think the place they pass (where the green stuff shoots up from in the film) is Minas Morgul. I'm not sure about this, but isn't Cirith Ungol the name of the steps?

Yes, everyone keeps saying "the pass of Cirith Ungol" so it must be the steps...

Tol Brandy sounds like it should be Tol Brandir, but I don't actually know if that's the name of the rock. Probably, but not sure. Next question. This is a bit obscure, so probably Tina will answer me... But does anyone know anything more about the Drúgs that we hear about in the Unfinished Tales, and what happened to them?

Welcome LinaeIsilme! It's great to have you post and I hope you are feeling well after your message-posting dance.
The rock is Tol Brandir.
As for the Drûgs, i did a little research:
It's a name for Drúedain who were an ancient race of Men and who fought against Morgoth in the First Age. IN the second age, they lived in Númenor with the Edain. But by the end of the THird Age, they had dwindled and the ones who lived in Drúadan Forest (forest to the East of the White Mountains) were the last population in Middle Earth. They were also know as Wild Men of the Wood/ Woses.
Actually, this has kinda confused me too now (as the stuff I found wasn't very detailed). Have men always populated ME or was it only after the sinking of Numenor? Or were there men always there and just the houses of Elendil which came after Numenor was sunk? And what about the other races e.g. hobbits, when did they come to ME?
Nothin is said about the role of the Drugs in the War of the Ring. Did they have one?

Oh whoops, I should have known the Drúgs and the Woses were the same thing, since I asked the same question on SF-Fandom about a year ago In which case they wouldn't have fought in the War of the Ring, since they dwindled and kept to themselves. Strange, I always thought of them as Hobbit-like creatures, at least from the description I'd read. Men were in ME from the First Age (and a bit before), but the Edain (the three main houses) moved to Númenor (some stayed in ME) at the end of the First Age. At the end of the Second Age, Númenor was sunk and the survivors (Elendil & Sons) moved back to ME. Hobbits are a variation of Man. Perhaps other people could tell you more about where they came from. Also, welcome Figwit! Hope to see you posting more
