Oh goosh yes, he was horrible-looking. Galdor wasn't too nice either.
I know Galdor was at the Council of Elrond, but what did he do or say there?

no wonder Erestor didn't make it on to the White Council.
I think Tolkien ran out of ideas when he named the Uruk-Hai and Olog-Hai...(orc-people and troll-people?!....honestly)
Why not take something like ...erm... Bengali! or Modern and Medieval Langs! (you could speak Elvish at the interviewers!)
But don't you dare go to Oxford. If we're at Cam. and make it on the TS varsity quiz team (I'm allowed the occassional daydream!) and you're all on the Oxford TS one, we'll have to answer questions against you guys. Not only would that break my heart, we would lose. Badly.

HAhaha that would be sooo cool though wouldn't it!!! Lol we can dream on!
Galdor, Galdor ummm all it says in my book is that he was sent by his master Cirdan to represent him in the council (why couldn't he come?!) and that is all that was ever recorded about him.
Oh btw Esteldil -
....means great orc etc, or does it!? still not v imaginative.
Weird how there are so many different meanings, wonder which one it really is.

I have another question which I can't seem to find answer to, and which probably is rather stupid:
Has the Great Battle at the End of the World happened that? (the one in which Melkor is prophesised to be completely destroyed and after which the Ainur will make sweet music (bnlt) with the Men and Elves)?? I think it was the battle at the end of the 1st Age but then surely that's impossible because Arda is supposed ot to be detroyed in this battle and that can't be true as ME is in Arda....argh confusion!

I think the great battle being referred to is more of a Judgement Day kind of thing.

I assume the last battle is like the apocolypse. It is a time in the future when all the elves will come back from Valinor to help fight with Manwe against Melkor. We will all be joined together as one (bnlt) to defeat or be defeated by the one true evil and it will result in the destruction of Arda...and, depressingly us. It is also called the Dagor Dagorath, litrally the battle of battles. It is simply when the brothers Manwe and Melkor finally face one another. As no-one heard the last song.... third song whatever no-one will ever know until it happens when or what happens during the battle.
I have a point to make about Valinor, surely if all of the Elves have moved to Valinor and are supposedly there now, immortal with no-one dying...wouldn't they like be overrun? Surely there would be no more room up there by now!
I don't know about the Palatirs I guess that they were just lost, like many things during the dark time when Sauron first arose. I know that Gandalf says they are lost in the film "They are not all accounted for, the lost Seeing Stones. We do not know who else may be watching!". But that does not ness mean that they are in the bookas well of course. I only know that the palantir of Minas Morgul (previously Minas Ithil) was taken when it was overcome.

What I'm more worried about is the overcrowding of the Halls of Mandos, which is a much smaller space, and not all Elves leave there until the end of the world (Feanor doesn't leave... is he a special case? I don't know). But seriously, Valinor is huge. And there aren't all that many Elves altogether (rarely do two Elves have the same name, etc. etc.)
One question I do have - if Men move on from this world, and go on to no-one-knows-where, then how do they return to take part in the final music?

Men never get lost. Seriously though, maybe the souls of men will return when summoned- like the Dead ARmy?
Anyway, as for the last battle- I got that confuddled with the battle of the Last Alliance (silly me!) I think Tolkien's being artistic and doomsday-ish again.
Maybe the final battle will take place when Valinor is full (a sort of population control thing)? Why do elves go to the Halls of Mandos, pray? I'm assuming it's just the ones who are slain and it's just their souls?

Surely if 6000 years worth of elves have been reproducing then it is going to be pretty crowded already, what with all the buildilngs and stuff. Perhaps judgement day will be soon I CAN'T WAIT, ELVES YAY, WE'RE GOING TO SEE ELVES. I really wish Middle-Earth was real.....*is sad*

/me nods sadly in agreement.
Bitter was the time when it finally hit me that I'd never get to Middle Earth.
